A HUD (heads-up display) overlays each opponent's tendencies as live numbers on the table. Two stats alone — VPIP and PFR — classify most of the pool. This lesson teaches the core stats, what they mean, how to turn them into a player type, and the sample-size discipline that stops you acting on noise.

Learn these first — they carry most of the value.
VPIP — Voluntarily Put money In Pot %. How often they enter a pot with a call or raise. High = loose, low = tight. PFR — Pre-Flop Raise %. How often they enter by RAISING. The gap between VPIP and PFR is the tell:
- Small gap (e.g., 22/18) = aggressive, raises most hands it plays → a reg.
- Big gap (e.g., 40/8) = passive, calls far more than it raises → a station/fish.
